Kuyam: the signature mud treatment at Spa Ojai

In every way, the Kuyam treatment at Spa Ojai is a celebration of the harmony of cultures. From the design and decor of the Kuyam chamber, to the use of healing clays and the sharing of a communal experience, the Kuyam marries the best of ancient traditions with the new. The word "kuyam" means "a place to rest together" in the language of the Chumash people who originally inhabited the Ojai Valley, but the Kuyam also takes inspiration from the traditional healing ways of many cultures.

The only treatment of this type in the United States, we encourage all of our guests to experience the Kuyam.

This treatment combines the therapeutic effects of cleansing mud, dry heat, inhalation therapy and guided meditation. A terry wrap will be provided.
Accommodates up to eight men or women per session. Each guest is given 3 different clays; each one has a base desert red clay, which is rich in minerals and is therefore very healing to the skin and body. The clays are blended with a unique blend of essential oils, giving each of the three clays different therapeutic values. The three clays are as follows:

Kuyam Mud Mask

Ancient Sea Clays from pristine deposits have a soothing and purifying effect on the skin, and a healing and anti-inflammatory effect on the body in general. It can be used on the face or body to draw out toxins, and to reduce itching or inflammation. The signature essential oil blend of organic lemongrass, spearmint, lavender, chamomile and lime with a touch of rose is cooling and soothing to the body, mind and emotions. It will encourage a gentle detoxification process and stimulate cell renewal, and instill a general feeling of well-being. Can be applied anywhere on the body.

Meditation Clay Mask
Ancient Sea Clays from pristine deposits have a soothing and purifying effect on the skin, and a healing and anti-inflammatory effect on the body in general. It can be used on the body to draw out toxins, and to reduce itching or inflammation. The pure essential oil blend that includes Frankincense, Vetiver and Peppermint is designed to calm and clarify the mind, slowing the breath rate and supporting a meditative and peaceful atmosphere. Try applying particularly to the upper chest, neck and shoulder region to ease breathing and relieve tension.

Relax Clay Mask

With pure cosmetic grade desert clays and botanical essences, this clay mask for face and body is designed to nourish and detoxify your skin, leaving you feeling re-energized and refreshed. The fine grade of clays that we use offers not only a thorough detoxification of the skin, but also refines the pores creating a smooth and uniform complexion. The pure essential oil blend that includes sweet orange, ginger, lavender and chamomile is designed to be gently stimulating, increasing the peripheral circulation and further enhancing the detoxing action. It is also supremely relaxing and comforting, soothing the digestive system, muscles and joints. Apply especially to the lower chest and belly region, and on all major joints.
