1923
Edward D. Libbey's dream for his beloved Ojai Valley began to take shape as his private country club and golf course were built to harmonize with the unspoiled beauty of this rural paradise.

1925-1930
Guest rooms were added to the private county club started by Edward D. Libbey.

1930-1941
From its early days, guests felt the Ojai Valley Inn was an escape, a sequestered yet sophisticated getaway that gave them the feeling of being on their own private country estate.

1942
A different kind of glory distinguished the Ojai Valley Inn in 1942 when it was transformed into Camp Oak for a military training center for a battalion of 1,000 Army troops.

1944
The Army turned the base over to the U.S. Navy for a rest and recuperation facility. When the government finally auctioned off the last of the Quonset huts and barracks, the property was returned to private ownership.

1947
The Ojai Valley Inn & Spa re-opened, playing host to Hollywood notables Clark Gable, Irene Dunne, Lana Turner, Loretta Young, Hoagy Carmichael, Walt Disney, Nancy and Ronald Reagan, Judy Garland, Paul Newman and others.

1947-2004
For eight decades, the Ojai Valley Inn & Spa has been a sophisticated escape with the feel of a private country estate. Generations of guests have come here to relax and rejuvenate in an atmosphere of casual elegance and to enjoy the quiet peace of the scenic Ojai Valley that has always been a special kind of Shangri-la.

2005
A $90 million renovation took place in the spring of 2005. The legendary resort debuted 308 new rooms and suites, a new lobby and entrance, new golf shop, new restaurants, and new ballrooms and meeting spaces while preserving its original charming architecture and unique sense of place.

2006
The Resort is awarded the coveted 5-Diamond Award for excellence. Of the thousands of hotel and resorts inspected by AAA, less than 100 receive this distinction.
